Tell Congress to protect your access to birth control
It should be easy for women to get birth control. But the reality is, no thanks to the anti-choice movement, that women across the country are getting refused when they go to the pharmacy to get their birth control prescriptions filled. |

| GOP Senators Blocked 50 Judicial Nominees |
| 04.18.05 (1:47 am) [edit] |
tas, at the PBAHQ points out: GOP Senators blocked over 50 judicial nominees view outline When Clinton was in office. Worse, these nominees were never able to see a filibuster because the Republicans simply voted them down at the committee level. They were never brought onto the Senate floor for a full debate and up/down vote. I know I've discussed this before and I hate to repeat myself, but I saw Jesse's post on it tonight, and in comments we discussed how nobody else is talking about this. Why not? Given what Frist is about to do, is this not a relevant topic of discussion? Start hammering it home: Republican senators are big ass hypocrites.

| C-Span to Cover 9/11 Truth Talk at UW-Madison Monday! |

C-Span to Cover 9/11 Truth Talk at UW-Madison Monday!
Kevin Barrett, 12.04.2005 21:14
C-Span will challenge the official version of the 9/11 "terrorist attacks" with a nationwide delayed broadcast of a talk by David Ray Griffin at U.W.-Madison Monday 4/18/05, 7:30 p.m., in 272 Bascom Hall. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free.

Griffin's The New Pearl Harbor sparked the 9/11 Truth Movement
The nationwide news network C-span has broken the blackout on the 9/11 truth movement, raising hopes that other media outlets will follow, by deciding to broadcast a lecture by David Ray Griffin in Madison Monday night. An acclaimed philosopher-theologian and author of the 9/11 truth blockbusters The New Pearl Harbor and The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions, Dr. Griffin will be making a rare public appearance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Monday night, April 18th. at 7:30 p.m. in 272 Bascom Hall. His brand-new talk, entitled "9/11 and the American Empire: How Should Religious People Respond?" will focus on the ethical and spiritual dimension of facing the overwhelming evidence that the Bush Administration was complicit in the attacks of September 11th, 2001. His Madison appearance celebrates the founding of the new group MUJCA-NET: Muslim-Jewish-Christian Alliance for 9/11 Truth: http://mujca.com" title="http://mujca.com" target="_blank"http://mujca.com.
Two related events will precede the Griffin talk: A discussion of David Griffin's 9/11 books will be held on Sunday, April 17th, 2-4 p.m.at Peregrine Forum, 616 S. Brearly St., Madison, WI (608) 442-4399; and a benefit dinner for the Griffin talk and MUJCA-NET will be held at Catacombs Coffee House, directly across from Memorial Library on the U.W.-Madison campus from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday 4/18, right before the talk. Ten bucks buys all-you-can-eat cous-cous, falafel and baklava; David Griffin says he will be there, offering attendees the chance to shake the hand of the man political analyst Kevin Phillips says will take down the Bush Administration in flames.

Welcome to GOPLies in Wiki. I'm hoping that users familiar with wiki will take over and set up some basic structure for us. I'll do my best to learn the ins and outs in the mean time.
The beauty of wikis is that they can take any form and follow any path. So I guess it is up to me to pick a starting direction and see where others decide to make turns or alternate paths.
Since my interest lie mainly in culture, Fine Art, Music, Spoken Word and other Performance Arts I'll begin their.

| How Republicans Treat Veterans |

Veteran support?
Wednesday, April 6, 2005
To the editor:
My wife and I, both veterans of the U.S. military, found out the truth about Republican support for veterans at Ann Coulter's lecture last Tuesday. After I, a former Marine infantry sergeant, asked Coulter how she defended her promotion of the war, based on lies, which has sent 1,500 of my brothers and sisters to their deaths and 100,000 Iraqis to their graves, she responded that, "you're even stupider than I thought." This received an abundance of applause from the party that claims to "support our troops."
At the same moment, several Republicans hurled obscenities at my wife, a Navy veteran, and one threatened her with physical violence, stating he would kick her in the head if she didn't "shut up," when she was asking Coulter a question. The Republican Party claims to "support the troops," but who qualifies as a "troop"? Is the "troop" label only legit when we agree with the Republican stance, even if that "troop" has served in uniform bravely and selflessly for four years?
This is the manner in which the Republican Party treats its veterans that disagree with them. They threaten them with violence and call them names like "stupid," "f-ing bitch," or "idiot," all of which were hurled at my wife and I at Coulter's talk, despite our service to this nation. Ask yourselves this question, Lawrence: Why do you think they need to attack free-thinking veterans?

End the War in Iraq: Bring Our Troops Home Now Fund Essential Programs at Home, Not War Abroad Abolish All Nuclear Weapons Worldwide ========================= =================== Weapons of Mass Destruction Found in Iraq: 0 Nuclear Weapons Stockpiled by the U.S.: 10,350 Cost of the War in Iraq: Tens of Thousands of Lives and Billions of Dollars In May, world leaders, mayors and people from around the world will converge on the United Nations to decide the fate of the endangered Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Signed by 189 nations including the U.S., the NPT prohibits non-nuclear states from acquiring or producing nuclear weapons, and requires nations that have nuclear weapons to negotiate their elimination. Now, the Bush administration is on the verge of undermining the NPT and generating a dangerous new nuclear arms race. The Bush administration's posture toward nuclear proliferation has been utterly hypocritical. It threatens war against nations such as Iran and North Korea if they violate the NPT, while flouting the treaty itself. The U.S. is legally obligated under the NPT to eliminate its nuclear weapons, but in fact, the Bush administration is upgrading U.S. nuclear weapons systems and infrastructure, seeking to build a new generation of "battle-ready" nukes, and has even threatened first use of nuclear weapons. These terrifying moves are part of the larger Bush agenda of aggressive empire-building, the same drive for U.S. military and economic domination that led to the disastrous Iraq war. Nuclear weapons -- or rather, the fiction that Saddam Hussein was developing them -- were a key pretext for the Bush administration's invasion of Iraq. The whole world now recognizes this lie as an attempt to justify a war to control access to Iraq's oil and enhance U.S. power in the Middle East. The war in Iraq rages on with mounting casualties and a country in ruins, while here in the U.S., the cost of war translates into drastic cuts in vital services in our communities, hitting people of color, the poor, and working people the hardest. The world has seen many horrific conflicts since the first and only use of nuclear weapons in war 60 years ago when the U.S. bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nevertheless, nuclear weapons have not been exploded in war again. Now the Bush Administration is threatening to breach that "firewall" by including nuclear weapons in its war-fighting plans. On Sunday, May 1st, the day before the NPT Conference opens, United for Peace and Justice and Abolition Now! are organizing a massive demonstration in the streets of New York City. We will call for our troops to come home from Iraq and for complete nuclear disarmament. | Bush Divorces Laura Announces Wedding to Rove |

Bush Divorces Laura Announces Wedding to Rove In a move heralded by gay rights activists around the world. George Bush announced early this morning that he would be holding a Gay Marriage Ceremony in the Frat House where they first met at Yale University in New Haven, CT with none other than Karl Rove.
The religious right reeling from the Schiavo debaucle is infuriated and is demanding the immediate impeachment of their once beloved Father Figure. Our Man on the Scene Flourentine Boopsy Dole is live in Waco, TX with the President.
Flourentine: "Now Mr. President many of us here in the media are wondering if this is some kind of stunt. Are you really going to go forward with this?"
President Bush: "Well as much as I know it must sadden the folks that voted for me I can no longer deny my sexual orientation nor my innermost precious feelings for the great Rovester. Why when I saw him at a leather bar in New London I knew he was all man. Just the kind of man that could make this Top Gun blow his top. So, Sorry Laura I'm the kinda cowboy that needs to ride his own pony."

| A CALL FOR NONVIOLENT DIRECT ACTION: |
| 04.05.05 (1:55 am) [edit] |
A CALL FOR NONVIOLENT DIRECT ACTION:
For the May 18th Halliburton Shareholder's meeting and mobilization in Houston Texas!
Join us at the Four Seasons Hotel (1400 Lamar) in downtown Houston on May 18th, as Houston Global Awareness is calling on individuals, affinity groups and other organizations to participate in nonviolent direct action at the Halliburton shareholder’s meeting and make a bold statement supporting Iraqi self determination and justice for all… George W. Bush and former Halliburton CEO Dick Cheney to support the ongoing war and occupation have served billions upon billions of dollars in no-bid contracts on a silver platter to Halliburton. As a result, they have deprived the children and civilians in Iraq of a viable, independent future. Furthermore, the billions lining Halliburton's pockets detract and weaken desperately needed social services here at home. Halliburton’s operations are essential to the continuing US presence in Iraq and forcing their withdrawal would shut down parts and motives of the U.S. occupation. An aggressive, relentless and innovative campaign will create an economic, political and social climate that will ultimately force Halliburton from Iraq. That campaign has begun and the time to act is NOW! We've petitioned, held vigils, marched and cried out. Little has changed. The need for Direct Action has come and Houston is a perfect place to begin. On May 18th we will descend upon the Halliburton Shareholder's meeting from around the country en masse and put our bodies and creative resistance to use as a beginning to an end. If police attempt to move us, we will refuse. Those among us, who choose to, will sit down and claim an obligation to peacefully assemble in the name of all they find to be right in the face of what is clearly wrong. We will be non-cooperative yet peaceful, and above all we will hold our ground. We will act in accordance with the rich traditions of social movements before us, which have succeeded using nonviolent resistance to challenge injustice. A series of Nonviolent Direct Action preparations and trainings will be offered prior to the day of protest to maximize our collective impact, help form tightly knit affinity groups, provide community, and assist with out of towners needs. There will be local people, lawyers and others with experience available to help in navigating the legal system and assist with risk assessment. There will also be an action spokescouncil to coordinate the events on May 18. Let’s foster strategy, safety, and revolt. Alliance for Justice Raises Serious Concerns about Gonzales' Nomination for Attorney General

Contact: Julie Bernstein of the Alliance for Justice, 202-822-6070 ext. 297 or 240-601-5562 (cell)
WASHINGTON, Nov. 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Alliance for Justice expresses serious concerns over the nomination of White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales to the post of United States Attorney General.
"Alberto Gonzales served as a primary author of memos advocating the use of torture in defiance of the Geneva Conventions, international law and standards of human decency," said Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron. "Gonzales provided the Bush administration with the legal architecture to sidestep and ignore the rule of law that, as attorney general, he will be mandated to enforce."
Prominent members of the legal community, in a bipartisan effort, have long been demanding full disclosure of all memos related to torture-a request that White House Counsel Gonzales, among others, has failed to meet. "Alliance for Justice urges the Senate Judiciary Committee to review all memos relating to torture written during Gonzales' tenure as White House counsel before voting on his nomination," said Aron.
Aron noted other areas of concern in Gonzales' record, including his direct role as White House counsel in selecting extremist judicial nominees; his cavalier treatment of clemency petitions in Texas death penalty cases while advising then- Governor George W. Bush; and his financial connections to Enron as a Texas Supreme Court justice.
"Gonzales has consistently pushed the limits of executive privilege in order to shield the Bush administration from oversight by Congress or scrutiny by the American people," added Aron. "The position of the country's chief law enforcement officer demands an impeccable level of integrity and commitment to the rule of law that Gonzales has not proven to possess."
